Åmåk Kayak Challenge 2022 was a success!

AIM KAYAK CHALLENGE 2022 is over for this time. The gang from Kayakstore.se organized the largest kayak fishing competition on Swedish soil to date. Participants from over six countries took part and settled for a prize table worth SEK 125,000.

The competition started with an open training day on Friday and already there were reports of many large pike and several nice perch being caught. The Friday ended with a joint dinner at Dalsland's Skafferi and a review of the rules and the weekend's arrangement was made by the competition's organizer Felix Frey.

The first day of competition was Saturday and the start was at 8.00. All kayak anglers were met by persistent rain and low pressure that stayed all day. However, the low pressure and the rain did not affect the fishing, as a total of 101 approved fish were reported during Saturday and several kayak anglers filled in the paper (3x Perch and 3x Pike). Saturday ended with a joint three-course dinner at Dalslandsskafferi and the fishing during the day was extensively discussed.

The last day of competition started at 07:30 and had a thick blanket of fog that covered the entire bay in Åmål. This weather would break up into a high pressure with bright sun and lighter winds. This change in weather sped up the fishing, and that brought in regular reports of nice fish. A total of three large walleye came up as a bonus, two of 86 cm and the largest of 91 cm. The biggest perch of the weekend was Oscar Källbom, who measured a perch of 44cm. Stian Slora from Norway got the biggest pike during the weekend and it measured 115cm.

The final result was a record, everyone in the top five reported a result over 600 cm. Third place (654cm) was won by Sweden's Oskar Danielsson, who made his debut as a competitive angler from a kayak. Second place (664cm) was taken by Kasper Kjær Pedersen with two pikes over the meter reported. The win was taken by the experienced Dane Finn Sloth Skjødt who finally got their long-awaited win. Finn Sloth Skjødt reported an unparalleled 727 cm in two days of competition and with this result managed to qualify for the next Hobie Fishing Worlds.

The competition was a great success and the dates for 2023 are already booked! Write down 18-19-20 May 2023 in your calendar and book yourself in for the biggest kayak fishing competition in Scandinavia. For more pictures and info go to kayakstore!
